Sophie is a family law practitioner, who specialises in private and public children law.

Sophie joined Chambers in 2023 having successfully completed pupillage under the supervision of Vanessa Lau.

Sophie has an approachable style and an ability to build rapport with clients quickly. She will take the time needed to ensure a client’s understanding of both the advice being given, and the proceedings more widely, and tailors her approach to the individual client.

Sophie has assisted and represented clients with mental health and significant cognitive difficulties at all stages of proceedings and has experience working alongside intermediaries and advocates.

Private Law

Sophie represents parties at all stages of private law proceedings, from FHDRA through to Final Hearing. She often represents parents at finding of fact hearings and has successfully obtained and defended findings in relation to serious domestic abuse, including physical, psychological and sexual abuse, along with findings of coercive and controlling behaviour. Sophie has recently obtained findings in relation to the significant physical abuse of a young child by way of shaking.

Public Law

Sophie represents all parties in care proceedings at all stages. She is regularly instructed to attend advocates meetings, Case Management Hearings, Issues Resolution Hearings and Final Hearings.

Sophie has a particular interest in this area of practice. Prior to commencing pupillage, she worked as a Care Paralegal at Cartwright King Solicitors in Nottingham for just under 3 years. She regularly advised clients, running her own files and representing them in pre-proceedings meetings.

Domestic abuse

Regularly representing parties relating to applications for Non-Molestation Orders, Sophie has recently started to receive instructions in relation to Domestic Abuse Protection Orders. Before commencing pupillage, Sophie undertook volunteer work with a domestic abuse charity and she has a particular interest in representing those who require protection from the court in this regard.
