Pupillage

The application process for pupillage commencing September 2021 will be open from 1 January 2020.

Chambers will be offering up to three 12-month pupillages: one in the criminal department and two in the family department. In recent years nearly all of our pupils have been offered a tenancy with us.

We provide financial support comprising:

·         £15,728 for each pupil in the form of a grant;

·         Guaranteed billings in second six of £25,000 (family department) or £15,000 (criminal department). In our experience, pupils regularly bill in excess of the guaranteed amount;

·         Reasonable travel expenses from Chambers to Court during the non-practising period of pupillage;

·         Compulsory training costs.

It is anticipated that the overall package for the criminal department’s pupil will be worth in excess of £30,000. For the family department’s pupils, the figure will be in excess of £40,000.

Chambers is an equal opportunities employer and all applications will be treated in strictest confidence.

Application is by a form which can be downloaded here from 1st January 2020 and submitted via email to ebowie@18sjs.com or by post for the attention of the Chambers Manager. Please note only one application per candidate will be accepted. CVs will not be accepted. Applicants are expected to apply for either the family or criminal pupillages.
