KEEP CALM AND DO YOGA WITH 18 ST JOHN STREET

30th Apr 2020

In the interests of promoting health and wellbeing during this current crisis, members of 18 St John Street have been joining Yvonne Healing in daily yoga sessions. We would now like to extend this to our instructing solicitors!

If you are interested in learning more about yoga, or building on your practice, I am happy to provide remote guidance and teaching.

Many of you will be aware that about six years ago I took a sabbatical from the bar and travelled to India to train as a yoga/meditation teacher. I am always happy to share my love of yoga, but more importantly, there are many benefits that yoga provides which can help us to deal with working from home and having restrictions placed upon us.

There are many misconceptions about yoga and what it requires in terms of general fitness. It does not require an ability to tie yourself in Houdini style knots, nor to have the flexibility of a cat.

I have been teaching daily yoga classes to chambers remotely since the lock down began. Many members had no experience, or hadn’t done any yoga for a long time – I teach in a way that is accessible to all.

Yoga is suitable for everybody, and can be tailored to suit any level of fitness or experience.

It can involve sitting still and breathing. It can involve doing postures whilst sitting in a chair. It can be done in the office whilst wearing a suit.

A small commitment of just ten minutes per day can make a huge difference.

BENEFITS OF YOGA

First and foremost, yoga will leave you feeling relaxed and calm. Many yoga techniques are closely associated with meditation. A yoga practice does not involve a complete change of lifestyle, an artificially heated yoga studio, or hours of gruelling contortions.

Yoga is gentle, but effective. It requires nothing more than comfortable clothing, and can be effectively practised in your own home.

If you are interested in learning more about yoga, or building on your practice, I am happy to provide remote guidance and teaching.
