Alisan’s practice encompasses all matters in Health and Welfare and Property and Finance in the Court of Protection. Alisan regularly acts in complex cases involving welfare disputes, deprivation of liberty (s.21 applications) and serious medical treatment matters.  She has a particular interest and experience in the cases involving deputies and the scope of their authority, financial abuse, powers of attorney and statutory wills.  Alisan can provide training and seminars in these areas to practitioners including public bodies and professional deputies.

Alisan also appears at inquests and advises in all matters of Coronial Law.  She represents various and diverse ‘Interests Persons’ throughout the inquest process including bereaved families, the MOJ and those having sustained life changing injuries.  Alisan undertakes Article 2 Inquests relating to deaths occulting in state detention.  Having had significant experience in the field of personal injury work, Alisan is particularly well equipped to deal with deaths resulting from road traffic incidents and deaths in the workplace.

OPG v SC&MC – revocation of lasting powers of attorney and appointment of a panel deputy in a case where the attorney’s had not acted in P’s best interests.

VT: maintaining a placement out of the local authority area, pursuant to a s21A challenge to a deprivation of liberty.

SHM: complex issues of capacity in an urgent application for conveyance to an alternative placement.  The court also considered the restriction of P’s social media usage.

Article 2 inquest touching upon the death of Sheila Edwards – representing the family and litigation friend of a motorist who sustained life changing injuries when involved in an accident with another driver, who had failed to self-certify to the DVLA, that he had conditions which might effect his ability to drive safely.  Regulation 28 reports made in respect of the DVLA’s scheme of self-certification.

Inquest touching upon the death of Alex Crook – A young man who drowned whilst swimming at a local beauty spot.  The inquest highlighted the lack of provision of mandatory swimming lessons by some schools in the Wigan area.
