Christopher Lothian-Field assisted a Doctor in avoiding erasure after admitting dishonesty at Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service hearing.
Christopher Lothian-Field recently acted in a case before the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) concerning a doctor who faced multiple counts of dishonesty arising from his initial registration on the GMC register.
Following a five-day hearing, the tribunal accepted that the doctor had developed significant insight into his actions and engaged in meaningful ethical remediation. As a result, and whilst the misconduct was found to be serious and the doctor’s fitness to practise impaired, erasure was avoided, and a six-month suspension was imposed instead.
At a subsequent review hearing, the tribunal determined that the doctor was no longer impaired in his fitness to practise and has now been permitted to return to unrestricted practice.
This case highlights the importance of genuine insight and remediation in professional discipline proceedings, even in cases involving dishonesty.
